Project: Torishin Hawaii
We designed Torishin, the first yakitori restaurant in New York to receive a Michelin star, in a previously shell-condition space on the ground floor of the Aeʻo condominium in the Kakaʻako district.
We incorporated an abundance of custom kumiko woodwork, handcrafted by Japanese artisans, to create a refined, high-end atmosphere.
To bring guests as close as possible to the yakitori chef, we implemented a downdraft system. Even though the food is grilled over charcoal right in front of them, the space was carefully designed so that smoke does not reach the guests.

Project: MARUGAME UDON
Marugame Udon is a popular Japanese fast-food chain that has many locations worldwide. Focus Design Studio designed the expansion of their top-selling shop in Waikiki. We also obtained permits and observed the construction. Because of the shop's high demand, the closure for construction had to be kept to an absolute minimum. Focus Design Studio came up with very detailed and thorough planning and was able to complete the entire construction work in just 8 weeks.

Project: Moff Cafe - Cat Cafe at Ala Moana Center
Complete renovation of an old tenant space into a cat cafe. With the goal of creating a relaxing space for both cat and people, careful consideration was given to flow and materials. The interior features the warmth of natural wood and soft indirect lighting, creating a soothing and welcoming environment for all visitors.
Since cat cafe are virtually nonexistent in the U.S., obtaining a building permit was particularly challenging. However, the project was successfully completed on time and within budget.
